Music for Your Films

If you want to enter a movie you make in just about any film festival or contest out there (including our own Telos Awards), you have to make sure you own the rights to all of the music you use. Here are a few ways to make this happen:

1. Write your own music or use music written by a friend who has given you permission to do so.
2. Buy the festival rights to use copy-righted music. This can be rather expensive and time consuming but can totally be worth it if it makes your film rock! Talk with an EHHS film instructor about how to do this.
3. Go to the Manbear SaveCave and look in the "Resources" folder. There you'll find a folder full of music that students at our school have the right to use in their movies.
4. Use one of the following collections of music on the internet that are free to use (although some of them have rules so be sure to read those and follow them):
1. The YouTube music archive.
2. Sound Cloud. 
• To use this music, you have to create an account with them then message the person who posted a particular song and ask for their permission to use it. Once they grant permission (which most people usually do), you can use it in your film.
• Gage Peterson, an EHHS alumnus, is usually cool with students using his music. You can find his Sound Cloud page here: https://soundcloud.com/eukalasaurusrex. Remember to ask him for permission before using his music!
3. Machinima Sound.
4. FreeStockMusic.com.
5. InCompTech.com.
6. Archive.org.
