The 2024 Telos ceremony will be held in May, the date is TBA. The location this year is the studio of East Hollywood High, but there is a good chance, due to the pandemic, that we will have to limit the number of attendees and thus will stream on the Interwebs on the East Hollywood High's Youtube page shortly thereafter.

Commonly Asked Questions (direct any additional questions to Spencer & Will):

Q: Can I submit a project I finished last year?
A: Depends. Did you finish after last year's TELOS deadline (April 2, 2023)?  Then yes. If not, then no :(

Q: What if I graduated in May of 2023, can I still submit?
A: If it was a movie you made while still at East Hollywood that you finished after April 2, 2023 (about half way through 5th term) and before you graduated, you can still submit it!

Q: What if I made this movie with friends after school, and it wasn't a class project, can I still submit it?
A: Totally!  As long as you are/were an enrolled EHHS student at the time you made it, you are welcome to submit projects you made independently.

Q: What are the categories I can enter?
A: There are many. If you have a finished video, film, commercial, script, or essay, there is probably a category it fits in so fill out the form and submit it!

Q: Can I use copy-righted music in my submission?
A: No. Sorry. You must have the rights to all music featured in your film or it will be disqualified. The only exception to this is the Music Video category but we still recommend that you make music videos with non-copy-righted music so that you can enter your films in other festivals.

Q: Are there limits to how long my scripts or movies can be?
A: We prefer that scripts be 12 pages or less but we can sometimes make exceptions (see a film instructor). Six second comedies can be no longer than 6 seconds. Commercials/PSA's can be up to 3 minutes (see film instructors for exceptions). All other projects can be as long as you like but keep in mind that many film festival judges tend to favor shorter pieces.

Q: How many films/scripts/film essays can I submit to TELOS?
A: As many as you like. Go crazy?  But we recommend, instead of submitting everything you've written, you submit only your best work, that'll make the judges happy.  And you want to have happy judges reading your writing.

Q: Will films be accepted after the deadline if I have extenuating circumstances?
A: No. Get them in now!

Q: Am I eligible to win a Telos for work I did on a teacher-directed project?
A: Depends. Teachers are not eligible for a Telos but students are. So, if you acted in a teacher-directed project, submit the scene which best highlights your acting talent and indicate that you want to be considered for the acting Telos. Same goes for work you may have done as a cinematographer, production designer, visual effects artist, editor, sound person, etc. But if you helped edit an episode and a teacher also worked on the edit of that same episode then, sadly, you are not eligible. But if there's a scene you edited that was not touched by a teacher then go ahead and submit just that scene!

Q: Are alumni eligible to win a Telos?
A: Depends. If the alumni worked on the project while enrolled as a student at East Hollywood then yes! For example, the alumni may have finished the project after last year's TELOS deadline but before graduating.

Q: What about students who graduated early this year?
A: All projects made this year by students who graduated early are eligible. After all, they haven't walked and received their diploma yet.

Q: How many TELOS awards does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: This is a silly question.
